Problem
The declining of the youth being able to sow and other skills
that use to be taught at a young age because of a decline in home economic classes and
adults not using these skills or teaching the younger generation these skills.
Solution
The kids should take it into their own hands and find ways
to teach them selfies these skills or find people that know these skills that
can teach these skills. I personally am teaching myself how to do these skills with the help of my grandma to keep the tradition of making quilts going in my family.
Justification
Pamela Norum, a professor in the Department of Textile and
Apparel Management in the University of Missouri College of Human Environmental
Sciences has done much research on millennials and the lack of the household
skills. "In 2012, Americans created more than 14.3 million tons of textile
waste," Norum said. "Much of this waste is due to clothes being
discarded due to minor tears or stains-easily repairable damages if the owners
have the skills and knowledge to fix them.
